ITINERARY

THERE ARE TWO POSSIBILITIES FOR THIS ROUTE (A AND B):

ITINERARY A:

Day1 We pick you up from your hotel between 6:00 and 7:00 in the morning, depending on what train you have tickets for. For three hours you travel by train to Machupicchu town, where you take a bus and arrive at Machupicchu at approximately 11 AM. You get to see Machu Picchu on a guided group tour for tow hours, and then you have free time to hike around the site. At approximately 4 PM you take the return bus and descend to Machupicchu Pueblo and the hotel .

Day2. This being a free day, you can hike around AguasCalientes, visit the Machu Picchu museum, hike to the Mandor falls, or relax in the thermal baths. Machupicchu town is a small, friendly and safe to wander around and explore. In the afternoon, according to the schedule on your train ticket, you board the train and return to Cusco. Please make sure your board the train at least 30 minutes before scheduled departure.

ITINERARY B:

Day1 We pick you up from your hotel between 6:00 and 7:00 in the morning, depending on your train. The train trip to Machupicchu town takes approximately 3 hours. After settling in in your hotel, you may either walk around town, visit the Machu Picchu museum, hike to the Mandor falls, or visit the thermal baths. Everything is located in or near town. The tour guide for Machupicchu will come and meet you at the reception desk of your hotel at 7:00pm, to make arrangements for the next day.

Day 2. After a healthy breakfast, you take the bus to Machu Picchu Your guided group tour lasts two hours, and after that you can explore the citadel on your own until noon. At noon we take the return bus to town. In the afternoon you board the train and return to Cusco. Remember to be at the train station at least 30 minutes before scheduled departure !

Itinerary B has a great advantage in that you get to visit the citadel early in the morning when there aren’t many visitors.

Note: Entry tickets to the Mandor falls (5 soles) or the thermal baths (10 soles) are not included in the tour price. Lunch and dinner both days are not paid for.

YOU SHOULD BRING: Your original passport and your immigration ticket that Peruvian immigration officials gave you upon entering Peru. You will need it to check into your hotel in AguasCalientes. Bring sun block, insect repellent, a lightweight rain suit or poncho, and basic warm clothes for the train journey. It can get cold and wet in all seasons in the Peruvian mountains.

WE ALSO RECOMMENDED TAKING:

  • A bathing suit.
  • We recommed you make your reservation by paying the 50% down-payment at least 90 days in advance in order to secure your entry ticket to Machupicchu and get a train ticket at the better hours.
  • Make sure you bring your original passport with you on your tour, carry some local currency for the purchase of souvenirs and small expenses such as lunch (average of s./50.- in the town of Machu Picchu)

Optional Climb to Huaynapicchu

It is possible to climb up to the peak of Huaynapicchu, the mountain next to Machupicchu. The hike is safe and very peaceful, in sub-tropical vegetation, with a spectacular view from the top. It takes a total of at least 2 and a half hours (2 hours walking time), but is physically challenging. Make sure you are in good physical condition and acclimatised if you want to do this hike. Going on the hike requires an additional permit to enter Huaynapicchu which costs $15.-.

With the B itinerary the hike can be done on the same day as the visit to the Machupicchu citadel. With the A itinerary, on the other hand, it isn’t possible to do the hike on the same day as the visit, so it would be necessary to go up to the citadel a second time, which would mean buying a second entry ticket to Machupicchu and paying for the bus transportation a second time as well. (total additional cost including Huaynapicchu permit of $83.-)

Please notify us if you want to take the Huaynapicchu option when you make your reservation. After we purchase your entry ticket to Machupicchu it is very difficult to purchase a separate entry ticket for Huaynapicchu
