Machupicchu By Train 2 days /1 night

There are two classes of trains to choose from on this journey:
Vistadome. This train is first class, with comfortable seating and large panoramic windows.
Backapacker. This is an economical option that offers basic service.

Itinerary

THERE ARE TWO POSSIBILITIES FOR THIS ROUTE (A AND B):

ITINERARY A:

Day 1.
We pick you up from your hotel between 5:30 and 6:30 in the morning, depending on what train you have tickets for. For four hours you travel by train to Aguas Calientes, where we take a bus and arrive at the Machu Picchu site at approximately 11 AM. You get to see Machu Picchu on a guided group tour for three hours, and then you have free time to climb the small peak of Huaynapicchu or hike around the site. At approximately 4 PM we take the return bus and descend to Aguas Calientes and the hotel .
Day 2.
This being a free day, you can hike around Aguas Calientes, visit the Machu Picchu museum, hike to the Mandor falls, or relax in the thermal baths. Aguas Calientes is a small town, friendly and safe to wander around and explore.
In the afternoon, according to the schedule on your train ticket, you board the train and return to Cusco. Please make sure your board the train at least 20 minutes before scheduled departure.

ITINERARY B:

Day1.
We pick you up from your hotel between 5:30 and 6:30 in the morning, depending on what train you have tickets for. For four hours we travel by train to Aguas Calientes, then spend the rest of the day exploring the town. After settling in your hotel, you may either walk around Aguas Calientes, visit the Machu Picchu museum, hike to the Mandor falls, or visit the thermal baths. Everything is located near the village of Aguas Calientes.
Day 2.
At 6 AM, after a healthy breakfast, we board the bus to Machu Picchu and arrive at 6:30. Your guided group tour lasts for three hours, and then you may explore the ruins until noon. At noon you get back on the bus and return to Aguas Calientes. In the afternoon you board the train and return to Cusco. Don’t forget to board the train at least 20 minutes before it is scheduled to depart.
Itinerary B has a great advantage in that you get to visit the citadel early in the morning when there are not many other visitors.

Adult: 283 American dollars .
Student: 263 American dollars. (bring your current ISIC card) .
Taking the Backpacker Economy Class train.
Adult: 239 American dollars
Student: 219 American dollars (bring your up-to-date ISIC card).

  • A night in the “Hotel Presidente”, but if you desire you can choose the “Hostal Plaza, Hostal Machupicchu or Hostal Continental, which reduces the overall cost by seven dollars.
  • Note: Hostal in Peru categorizes a hotel. There are hostales with up to three stars, that offer exemplary service and comfort.

THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE :

  • Entry tickets to the Mandor falls (5 soles) or Aguas Calientes thermal baths (10 soles).
  • Meals (lunches and dinners cost between 30 – 40 soles each.).

YOU SHOULD BRING :

Your original passport and your immigration ticket that Peruvian immigration officials gave you upon entering Peru. You will need it to check into your hotel in Aguas Calientes.
Bring sun block, insect repellent, a lightweight rain suit or poncho, and basic warm clothes for the train journey. It can get cold and wet in all seasons in the Peruvian mountains.

WE ALSO RECOMMENDED TAKING :

A bathing suit.
Bring at least 250 soles in local currency to buy meals, souvenirs, to pay for the entry fee to the Mandor rapids (5 soles), and to enter the Aguas Calientes thermal baths (10 soles).

PLEASE NOTE :

SOMETIMES SEATS RUN OUT ON THE TRAIN FROM CUSCO TO MACHU PICCHU. IN THIS CASE TOURISTS TRAVEL THE FIRST LEG OF THE TRIP UP TO OLLANTAYTAMBO BY BUS (which is actually a faster trip) AND CONTINUE FROM THERE BY TRAIN TO MACHU PICCHU.
